The Goldendoodle is a designer breed and is a cross between a purebred Poodle parent dog and one purebred Golden Retriever parent dog. When talking about Goldendoodle size, it again varies across the breed.

In the world of Goldendoodle breeders, there are three adult-size ranges: mini, standard, and large. The size of the Poodle parent can greatly impact adult Goldendoodle size. But that’s not always in the ways you may expect.

Goldendoodles generally reach their maximum height by one year old but can spend a little longer gaining girth and weight. Goldendoodles generally finish growing anywhere between 1 to 2 years of age.

Mini Goldendoodle Size

In the case of mini Goldendoodles, the Poodle parent is a miniature Poodle.

When fully grown, a Miniature Goldendoodle will measure 13 to 20 inches high at the wither. When fully grown they will weigh between 15 to 35 pounds.

The Mini Goldendoodle makes a great lap dog for small home or apartment owners. They’re happy, fun-loving dogs that are very affectionate and easy to train. Mini Goldendoodle is a very popular pet choice for families with children.

Standard Goldendoodle Size

In the case of standard Goldendoodles, the Poodle parent is a miniature Poodle. Standard Goldendoodles are a popular choice as they are small enough to live in apartments but large enough to serve as family pets.

The majority of this breed when fully grown will measure 17 to 20 inches tall measured at the wither. When fully grown they will weigh between 40 to 50 pounds.

This variation of the Goldendoodle breed can still be the perfect lap dog but also a great companion for a morning walk or a game of fetch.

Large Goldendoodle Size

In the case of large Goldendoodles, the Poodle parent is a standard Poodle. Large Goldendoodles are the largest of the three classes, so potential owners should be ready to accommodate them with more space to live and play.

When fully grown, a miniature Goldendoodle will measure 20 to 24 inches high at the wither. The weight of an adult Goldendoodle, with a standard Poodle parent, can vary from 50 to 90 pounds.

Standard Goldendoodles are great companion dogs for those who enjoy the comfort and security of a large dog. You need to have a large fenced yard for your Standard Goldendoodle to be active.

Large Goldendoodles are active dogs that love running and playing. They need room and are not ideal for those in apartment living. The large Goldendoodles are the most common and referred to as the ‘large’ dogs within this breed.

What is a multi-generational Goldendoodle

Multi-Generational Goldendoodles are puppies born from five consecutive breedings and whose parents are both an F3 Goldendoodle generation or higher.

The selective breeding process helps Goldendoodle breeders achieve puppies with the characteristics they’re looking for.

With Goldendoodles, one of those desired traits is a low-shedding coat.

Generational breeding terms are often used by breeders. Here are some of you will likely encounter when researching Goldendoodles:

F1 is a first-generation Goldendoodle, which is 50% Golden Retriever and 50% Poodle, are bred from purebred Golden Retrievers and Poodles.

F1B is a first generation (F1) Goldendoodle that’s bred to a purebred Poodle. Puppies from F1B litters are 75% Poodle, so they have more of the physical characteristics of that breed. The Goldendoodle coat type can vary on an F1B dog. This variety of Goldendoodle may have restrictions on size and may still shed somewhat.

F2 Goldendoodle puppies have parents that are both F1. Puppies from the same litter may not all have similar characteristics.

At what age is a Goldendoodle full grown?

Goldendoodles tend to reach their full height at between 12 and 18 months. However, they will continue to fill out and gain weight for about a year after that.

It is important to be wary about overfeeding Goldendoodles. They love food and have very little control over their own appetite. So, it’s not uncommon for excessive treats and generous meals to result in overweight Goldendoodle pups.

Factors that affect Goldendoodle growth

Here are some factors that affect the growth of the Goldendoodles:

  • Genetics

Your Goldendoodle’s genetics can determine whether it will be miniature, standard, or large. Some genetic health conditions could affect your Goldendoodle puppy’s growth.

If your Goldendoodle is the pick of the litter, it will be more strong and big by nature. If your Goldendoodle is the runt of the litter, it will be smaller by nature.

  • Nutrition

Diet has a huge effect on the weight of your Goldendoodle. Good nutrition can determine how well your Goldendoodle is growing. Healthy and good nutrition supports normal growth and maintains the puppy at a healthy weight and in better body condition.

  • Parasites

Parasites are a very common cause of weight loss or a lack of weight gain in Leonberger. These parasites and intestinal worms can steal enough calories from the puppy to slow down its growth. Goldendoodle puppies that have a heavy worm burden typically look small and unhealthy.

  • Physical activity

Another factor that will affect your Goldendoodle’s weight is its physical activity. Goldendoodles require a good amount of exercise to keep them healthy and prevent them from getting overweight.

  • Health and ailment

Good health is important for growing puppies. Your Goldendoodle might be short and underweight due to an illness. If it seems to be sick, the best option would be to take your dog to a vet.

  • Anxiety

Your Goldendoodle might be stressed which is causing it to lose weight.

What if my Goldendoodle puppy is losing weight?

Healthy and active Goldendoodle puppies should never lose weight. If your Goldendoodle puppy is losing weight, it might be a sign of an underlying illness. It’s best to talk to a veterinary professional and address this problem immediately.
